Minutes and Document managers
Saturday, 30 May 2009 21:39

Town Websites is pleased to announce two new modules, for posting meeting minutes and documents to websites.

Either can be configured to post items directly via email , or to request a manager's approval before the documents are made public on the website.  The document manager can be browsed as if browsing through folders on your computer, as well as being linkable so they can be referenced from particular parts of your website.  The minutes manager can also be configured to be "browsable" or to just maintain links from specific parts of your website, such as a committee's page.

We'll have a full feature demonstration website on July 6th.

Municipal Mapping Applications
Monday, 11 May 2009 13:56

Town Websites has developed database and mapping modules that can be customized for a variety of assessor, zoning, and visualization needs.

Please enquire if you would like to see a demo or discuss your town's needs.

UBuntu, WebMin, and many other contributors

We have configured a backup, testing, and monitoring server on our Intranet to enhance the services we can provide while further reducing our overhead costs.   We can now automate our off site backups and site monitoriing, saving time required for manually performing these tasks as well as making them more reliable and scalable.

All of the software running on this server is open source.  We don't have anything against proprietary software; we use Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office products on a daily basis, running on Windows PCs with Intel processors.  However, these particular applications allow us to leverage the work of many thousands of developers, and they're widely accepted as industry standards for website development and hosting.

There are many, many contribitors to LINUX, and specifically to the UBUNTU LINUX distribution, and we thank them all.

WebMin is a server control panel that provides a graphical administrator control panel for configuring and monitoring our UBUNTU server.  We considered using ISPConfig, which is a hosting control panel, but it was not a good match to our CPanel controlled client sites.  WebMin's tool set gives us low level control over the Linux server with a convenient graphical control panel.

We make extensive use of the LAMP server included in the UBUNTU Linux distribution, running Apache webserver, MySQL database, and PHP scripting.
